What support is available for referral?

We offer a range of counselling services and accept referrals at different stages of the grief process after a death. If you are looking for support after a significant loss in your life, such as a relationship or job, please click here to access our loss service. Please read the information below carefully before proceeding with your referral as any referral outside the appropriate timeframe may not be accepted.

Important note: CCIWBS is not a crisis service and we have waiting lists for all services. If you, or the person you are looking to refer, require immediate help, please click here for further information.

If you have any questions before making a referral, please don't hesitate to email us at referrals@cciwbs.org.uk or call on 0207 284 0090.

Individual Bereavement Counselling

Bereavement counselling offers a space to talk about all the different thoughts and feelings following a death with one of our bereavement counsellors. Bereavement counselling is usually offered for up to 10 or 12 weeks and takes place weekly for 50 minutes on the same day at the same time.

When can I refer?

Referrals are accepted once six months have passed since the most recent death. There is no upper time limit and we accept referrals no matter how long ago the death was.

3-Session Early Bereavement Support

We have a limited number of spaces for early bereavement support that aims to provide immediate, grounding support to assist people as they begin processing their thoughts and emotions after a sudden and unexpected or traumatic death. Early bereavement support offers three 50-minute sessions with the same counsellor each week on the same day and the same time.

When can I refer?

In the first three months after the death.

Bereavement Group Counselling

Facilitated by two experienced bereavement counsellors, clients create a bereavement community and learn to support each other. We usually run two bereavement counselling groups per year. They take place in person for 8 weeks and each session is 2.5 hours. The next group is planned to start in mid-January 2025.

When can I refer?

Bereavement counselling groups are designed to support those who experienced a death more than 12 months ago. Earlier referrals will not be accepted.

Please consider referring for individual counselling support if the death was 6 to 12 months ago.
