Receiving your referral

All referrals pass through our triage process. If we need further information from you before processing your referral, a member of our team will contact you.

If we have all information required, you will receive an email from CCIWBS Admin to let you know that we have received your referral and asking you to confirm your email address. Note: Please check your spam folder or add emails from admin@cciwbs.org.uk to your email whitelist to ensure you receive our emails.

Waiting times

All our clinical services are by prior appointment only. We are not a crisis service and are unable to offer ad-hoc or out-of-hours crisis support (please click here if you require urgent support)

After receiving your referral, you will be put on our waiting list for assessment and we will contact you when assessment appointments are available. Our current waiting time to assessment for bereavement counselling is approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

After the assessment appointment there will be a further wait until the start of bereavement counselling. This wait is dependent on a combination of factors: level of support required based on assessment, counsellor availability and your availability.

How we offer bereavement counselling

  • Sessions are 50 minutes long and offered weekly at the same time on the same day for up to 10 or 12 weeks. Sessions cancelled by the client are not replaced.

  • Once you have started bereavement counselling, it is not possible to make changes to the time or day of weekly counselling sessions.

  • We primarily offer counselling face-to-face and clients must be able to attend sessions in person regularly.

  • Less than 20% of our counsellors offer phone or video counselling and this service is primarily available to clients who would not be able to access bereavement counselling otherwise, for example due to mobility issues. The waiting time for remote counselling is currently at least 3 to 4 months from assessment.
